Pro Race Commitment Example

As a pro triathlete, you may be asked to perform certain tasks before a race in exchange for free promotion, lodging, or a stipend. It is flattering to be in a position where your presence is welcomed during the events leading up to the race. It is a great forum to meet influential individuals and administrators in the sport, help triathletes with your knowledge, and make a difference in the local community.

However, there is a fine line between being available for these pre-race events and preparing for your own race. As a pro triathlete, racing is your livelihood so be prepared to balance these potentially draining events with making sure your body and mind are ready for the event at hand.

Attached is a typical race week media schedule of a professional triathlete. While the athlete is of course ecstatic to be a part of the festivities, often time he or she needs to be conscious of their own well being, especially race week. It is tough to say “NO” to some of the activities leading up to the race but it also important to find middle ground. As a result, it is imperative to work closely with the race management to make sure it is a win win situation for both parties. It is important to compromise so the athlete is able to perform to the best of their abilities on race day.
